The BP Service Station is open 24 hours, providing fuel, takeaway food, coffee, and essential groceries, including fresh produce like bread, eggs, milk, and meats.

Upgrades completed in 2025 saw the refresh of the site’s interior. Guests can now enjoy some of the best restrooms along the Stuart Highway.

The station also features showers for road train drivers, along with convenient services such as phone recharges and Jacana Energy top-ups.

Celebrating BP Upgrades

Tennant Creek now boasts one of the best roadhouses on the Stuart Highway, with the reopening of the BP Service Station’s renovated restroom area and toilets.

“As the only 24-hour business in Tennant Creek, we know people rely on our facilities overnight.

But the restroom area had become rundown and was a regular source of complaints from both travellers and locals,” said Ms Jacqueline Graham, CEO of IRAM, which manages the service station.

“We have stripped down and refurbished the restrooms, showers and toilets; installed new security shields for staff safety; upgraded air conditioning; fixed the ceilings; and repainted the interior of the service station…

BP Driveway Major Upgrades

IRAM is thrilled to announce the next phase of upgrades at the Tennant Creek BP Complex, starting the 20th of January 2025.

This stage of the project includes the installation of a brand-new driveway, designed to provide smoother and more convenient access to our services. The work is expected to be completed within three weeks.

Upgrades to Tennant Creek BP Service Station

A major upgrade of the Tennant Creek BP Service Station will start at the end of September 2024 and take about three months, the CEO of IBA Retail Asset Management (IRAM) John Kop announced today.

Mr Kop announced that Darwin company M&J builders has been awarded the contract to refurbish the BP restroom area and toilets, replace much of the ceiling and upgrade security at the service station.

“We will keep disruption to a minimum during the rebuild and ensure fuel continues to be available 24 hours a day,” Mr Kop said.

The Relief Supermarket

The fire in July 2020 destroyed the Tennant Creek IGA site and the store was temporarily relocated to the BP storage shed. The Relief Supermarket, affectionately nicknamed “The Shed Supermarket” by locals, delivered essential groceries (including fresh fruit and veg, meat, bread, and frozen goods) to the Barkly region during the gap in operations.

The new store was built from the foundation up and was completed in March 2022. Tennant Creek IGA is now a modern, full range supermarket with an on site deli, butcher and bakery.
